Heritage Ohio Awards George Sam as First Main Street Manager of the Year
UPDATE: In a groundbreaking moment for community revitalization, Heritage Ohio has awarded George Sam, executive director of Main Street Medina, the prestigious title of Main Street Manager of the Year during its annual conference in Canton, Ohio. This marks the first time the organization has presented such an honor, highlighting Sam’s exceptional contributions to the community.
Sam expressed his surprise at the award, stating, “It was a total surprise to me. I had no idea until the award ceremony.” Having joined Main Street Medina in 2018 and becoming executive director in 2022, Sam has played a pivotal role in elevating the organization’s mission.
“I’m deeply honored, but I think of the managers in the other 40 communities that make up Heritage Ohio. They are all doing such great work and are very special,” he added, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that contribute to community success.
Each year, Heritage Ohio recognizes outstanding Main Street organizations with awards celebrating projects and individuals who significantly impact historic preservation and community enhancement. Sam’s leadership has led to a series of transformative initiatives, including a facade grant and loan initiative and substantial improvements in the South Town district.
According to a press release from Main Street Medina, “George has led the Main Street Medina organization to new heights through vision, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to community.” His strategic planning and committee realignment have strengthened the organization, while tools like Placer AI have introduced data-driven decision-making for local businesses.
“Thanks to George’s guidance, Historic Medina and the South Town District are more vibrant, connected, and welcoming with a renewed sense of pride and belonging within the community,” said Amy Busby, Vice Chair of Main Street Medina.
Sam is quick to credit his team for their collective success. “Everyone, including our board of directors, our committees, our volunteers, and staff, work so hard,” he said. “It really is all about collaboration and cooperation.”
This award not only honors George Sam but also underscores the ongoing efforts of Main Street Medina to foster a thriving community. As local businesses and residents rally around these initiatives, the impact on Historic Medina and the South Town District continues to grow.
As the community celebrates this milestone, all eyes will be on Main Street Medina to witness how further advancements unfold under Sam’s leadership. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
