CBS Officially Renames Yellowstone Spin-off to Marshals
UPDATE: CBS has just announced a significant title change for the highly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off featuring Luke Grimes. The series, originally titled Y: Marshals, will now simply be known as Marshals. This decision comes as the show gears up for its premiere on March 1, 2026.
The news was confirmed by a CBS spokesperson to The Hollywood Reporter, clarifying that “Y: Marshals” was always a “working title” while the finalized title is Marshals. Despite previous communications using the original title through November 2025, the rep emphasized that the “Y” was “always considered silent” internally, although it will still appear in the show’s logo.
This title adjustment precedes the series’ launch and adds an air of excitement as fans prepare for the story of Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes, who transitions from the Yellowstone Ranch to join an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. The official logline describes Kayce’s journey: “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana.”
The cast includes returning favorites such as Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merrill. They will be joined by new faces including Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Logan Marshall-Green, with Brett Cullen taking on a recurring role as Harry Gifford, the head of the Montana Marshals unit. Notably absent from the current cast list is Kelsey Asbille, who played Monica Dutton.
Filming for Marshals took place in Summit County, Utah, with a production budget of $52 million. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, with Taylor Sheridan credited as co-creator and executive producer. Despite his upcoming move to NBCUniversal, Paramount denies any connection between Sheridan’s departure and the title change.
CBS is set to air episodes of Marshals, with Paramount+ streaming the episodes shortly after. This title change is expected to stir further interest as fans eagerly await the show’s debut.
Stay tuned for more updates as the premiere date approaches, and share your thoughts on the new title in the comments!
