Bam Margera Returns to Jackass Franchise with Archival Footage
Bam Margera will make a return to the *Jackass* franchise, appearing in archival footage for the upcoming *Jackass 5*, as reported by Variety. This announcement marks a significant shift for Margera, who previously expressed his intention to distance himself from the series after a public fallout with the show’s creators.
Margera, a former MTV star and skateboarder, is not expected to perform new stunts alongside the cast. Instead, his contribution will consist of previously unseen footage. This decision comes after a tumultuous relationship with the franchise, particularly following his removal from *Jackass Forever* during filming in 2020.
In a candid interview with CinemaBlend, Margera stated, “They have like new dudes, and what they did to me, making me go to treatment and paying for it, and then not putting me in a movie… I just, you couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another *Jackass* with them. The damage has been done.” His departure stemmed from an incident where he allegedly tested positive for Adderall, which violated a wellness clause in his contract.
The fallout led Margera to file a lawsuit against Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, and Paramount Pictures, claiming wrongful termination and psychological distress due to a “sham Wellness Agreement.” Although he ultimately dropped the lawsuit, the events surrounding his exit from the franchise have been contentious.
Knoxville addressed the situation in 2022, expressing his disappointment over Margera’s absence in the film. “We wanted him all throughout the movie, but unfortunately that’s not the way it worked out. It’s really heartbreaking. I love Bam. We all love Bam. He’s our brother, you know?” Knoxville emphasized the importance of Margera’s well-being, hoping he would seek the necessary help.
As *Jackass 5* gears up for its release, fans can look forward to seeing Margera’s archival footage, which may offer a glimpse of nostalgia. Knoxville announced the film’s release date via social media, revealing it will hit theaters on June 26, 2024. He wrote, “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer *Jackass* is back!!”
This new installment follows four years after *Jackass Forever*, which featured a mix of returning favorites and newcomers. The previous film showcased the same death-defying stunts that fans have come to expect, including a particularly dangerous encounter with a bull that left Knoxville with multiple injuries.
While it remains unclear which members of the original cast will return for *Jackass 5*, the inclusion of Margera’s archival footage offers a unique opportunity for fans to experience a piece of his legacy within the franchise.
