Boyd’s 36 Points Propel Wisconsin Past Providence 104-83
UPDATE: Nick Boyd delivered a stunning performance with a career-high 36 points, leading the Wisconsin Badgers to a decisive 104-83 victory over the Providence Friars in the Rady Children’s Invitational on November 23, 2023. The game took place at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego and showcased Wisconsin’s offensive prowess.
Boyd, who previously played for San Diego State, also contributed seven rebounds and seven assists, shooting an impressive 15 of 25 from the field. His first-half explosion included 18 points, helping Wisconsin to a commanding 51-32 lead at halftime. Austin Rapp supported Boyd’s stellar performance with 20 points and five three-pointers, despite entering the game with just seven long-range shots for the season.
The Badgers surged ahead early, with a pivotal 3-pointer from Jack Janicki extending their lead to 70-42 with just over 13 minutes left in the game. Nolan Winter also shined for Wisconsin, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds, marking his fourth double-double of the season. John Blackwell added 11 points to the mix.
On the other side, Jason Edwards led Providence with 20 points, while teammates Stefan Vaaks contributed 11 points, and both Oswin Erhunmwunse and Jamier Jones chipped in with 10 points each.
This victory comes on the heels of Wisconsin’s 98-70 loss to No. 9 BYU, allowing them to bounce back strongly in the tournament. The Badgers (5-1) now look ahead to face TCU for the tournament title, aiming for their third consecutive holiday tournament victory and fourth in five years. Meanwhile, Providence (4-3) will compete against No. 10 Florida in the third-place game.
