Sandbar Unveils Stream Ring: A Voice-Activated AI Recorder
A new innovation in the realm of voice recording has emerged with the introduction of the Stream Ring, developed by startup Sandbar. This AI-powered device, designed to provide a unique way to capture thoughts and ideas, is being marketed as a “mouse for voice.” Unlike traditional notetaking tools, the Stream Ring offers a feature that attempts to mimic the user’s voice, creating an experience that Sandbar describes as a “conversational layer.”
The Stream Ring operates similarly to existing voice recorders, such as those produced by Plaud. Users activate the device by holding it near their mouths and pressing a touchpad, which allows them to record their thoughts at their discretion. Once recorded, these moments of inspiration can be accessed and edited through the associated app, called Stream. Sandbar emphasizes that recordings are encrypted both during storage and transfer, although users are reminded to consider security risks when using such technology.
Sandbar, which has successfully raised $13 million to fund the production of the Stream Ring, is backed by former employees of CTRL-Labs, a neural band startup acquired by Meta in 2019 for an estimated $500 million to $1 billion. This substantial investment reflects growing interest in AI recording devices, positioning Sandbar as a serious player in a rapidly evolving market.
Features and Pricing of the Stream Ring
The Stream Ring is available in two finishes, silver and gold, with a preorder price of $249 for silver and $299 for gold. Shipping is set to begin in summer 2026. The device aims to enhance creative thinking by allowing users to engage with their recorded thoughts through its distinctive Inner Voice feature, which is designed to make interactions feel more personal and intuitive.
In addition to the basic functionalities, Sandbar plans to offer a premium version of its app, called Stream Pro. This subscription service provides users with unlimited notes and chats, along with early access to upcoming features. New users will receive a three-month free trial, after which the subscription will cost $10 per month for early customers, though prices for later adopters remain undisclosed. A free tier will also be available for those who require less storage and functionality.
As AI-enhanced recording devices gain traction, the Stream Ring represents a blend of creativity and technology, catering to individuals looking to expand their capacity for thought. With its unique approach to voice recording and significant financial backing, Sandbar is setting itself apart from competitors focused primarily on productivity.
