Mixtape Wins Game of the Year at SXSW Sydney 2025 Awards
Beethoven & Dinosaur’s narrative adventure game, Mixtape, clinched the prestigious title of Game of the Year at the SXSW Sydney 2025: Games Showcase Awards. The ceremony, held over the weekend in conjunction with the SXSW Screen Awards, recognized a range of local and international developers for their contributions to the gaming industry.
Celebrating Innovation and Creativity in Gaming
In total, six awards were presented to recognize outstanding achievements in game development. The Discovery Award went to Little Pink Cloud for its cozy puzzle RPG, Letters to Arralla. Meanwhile, Studio Pixel Punk received the WINGS Award for its action-adventure RPG, Abyss x Zero. The Best International Award was awarded to Nice Dream, a Los Angeles-based developer, for its innovative sci-fi narrative adventure game, Goodnight Universe.
Additionally, Tasty Gold earned the Best Student Game accolade for its project, Abberrate Inc.. These recognitions highlight the creativity and innovation that are shaping the future of gaming.
A Global Showcase of Talent
The awards were part of the broader SXSW Sydney 2025 Games Festival, which took place at the ICC Sydney convention centre. The festival featured a curated showcase of game demos and insightful talks from industry leaders. This year’s event highlighted a total of 120 games from 37 countries and six Australian states and territories, illustrating the global reach and diverse talent in the gaming community.
