Anthropic Launches Claude Code Tool for Web Access
Anthropic has expanded access to its popular coding assistant, Claude Code, by making it available on the web. This new feature allows users to engage in coding sessions directly through their browsers, moving beyond the terminal interface. Currently, the tool is offered in a research preview for users on the Pro and Max plans, which are priced at $20 per month and between $100 to $200 per month, depending on the tier of usage selected.
The introduction of web access for Claude Code signifies a shift in how developers can utilize this tool. Previously confined to terminal usage, users can now assign coding tasks to Claude via Anthropic-managed cloud infrastructure. This web-based approach mirrors the functionality of other AI coding tools, such as OpenAI’s Codex and Google’s Jules, enabling coding directly within a GitHub repository interface.
Benefits and Features of Claude Code on the Web
According to Anthropic, the web version of Claude Code offers several advantages. Users can now access the AI’s assistance across multiple tasks and repositories simultaneously. Additionally, the tool enhances productivity by facilitating faster project shipping with automatic pull request (PR) creation and providing clear summaries of changes made. This capability allows developers to streamline their workflow, reducing the time spent on coding tasks.
In tandem with the web launch, Claude Code is also accessible through an iOS application. This development caters to mobile users, enabling them to utilize the tool while on the go. Anthropic has indicated that this feature is still in its early preview stage, and the company is actively collecting user feedback to improve the mobile experience.
Security remains a priority for Anthropic. Each task executed through Claude Code operates in an “isolated sandbox environment” that includes network and file system restrictions. Furthermore, interactions with Git utilize a secure proxy service, ensuring that Claude can only access authorized repositories. This approach addresses potential security concerns that developers may have about integrating AI tools into their workflows.
Getting Started with Claude Code
For those interested in trying out Claude Code on the web, access is currently limited to users on the Pro and Max plans. These plans not only provide enhanced access to Claude Code but also include additional benefits, such as higher usage limits, access to research, integration with Google Workspace, and a variety of Claude models.
As the demand for AI coding tools continues to rise, Anthropic’s expansion into web-based functionality positions Claude Code competitively in the market. By offering flexibility and accessibility, the company aims to meet the evolving needs of developers and enhance their coding experiences.
