Sliwa Unveils Budget Cuts in Heated Interview with Post Reporters
In a recent interview with New York Post reporters, Curtis Sliwa, a candidate for New York City mayor and founder of the Guardian Angels, outlined his plans to drastically reduce the city’s budget, which stands at an estimated $118 billion. Sliwa faced pointed questions from reporters Lydia Moynihan and Craig McCarthy, who pressed him on his controversial strategies and his critiques of his opponents, including Zoran Mamdani.
Sliwa emphasized his intention to target spending within the Department of Education and the Department of Buildings. He believes that these departments are bloated and that significant cuts could be made without sacrificing essential services. “We need to take a hard look at where our money is going,” he stated, asserting that his administration would prioritize efficiency and accountability.
The candidate criticized Mamdani and fellow opponent Andrew Yang, accusing them of perpetuating what he termed a “socialist mess” in the city’s governance. Sliwa argued that their approaches would lead to increased taxes and further financial strain on residents. “We cannot afford to keep spending at this rate,” he insisted.
Sliwa’s proposals are part of a broader strategy to reshape New York City’s financial landscape, which he views as critical to restoring the city’s vibrancy and appeal. He called for a re-evaluation of how taxpayer money is allocated, stating, “New Yorkers deserve better than what they are getting.”
While Sliwa’s plans have garnered both support and skepticism, his willingness to confront tough issues head-on has positioned him as a significant contender in the upcoming election. The interview highlighted his determination to challenge the status quo and advocate for fiscal responsibility, a message he aims to resonate with voters as the election approaches in November 2023.
As the campaign progresses, Sliwa’s bold assertions and distinct approach to the city’s budget will be closely scrutinized by both supporters and opponents. His ability to convey a clear vision for New York City could prove pivotal as he seeks to consolidate his position in a competitive electoral landscape.
Through a combination of assertive rhetoric and specific policy proposals, Curtis Sliwa is making his mark as an underdog candidate willing to tackle the challenges facing New York City head-on.
