New Metric Media Acquires Podcast Studio Kelly&Kelly to Expand Portfolio
New Metric Media, the producer behind popular series like Letterkenny and Shoresy, has announced its acquisition of the Vancouver-based podcast studio Kelly&Kelly. This strategic move, effective from November 1, 2023, marks New Metric’s second significant investment in recent weeks, following its partnership with Good Walk Entertainment.
Founded in 2016 by Chris Kelly and Pat Kelly, Kelly&Kelly has carved a niche in the comedy podcast space, producing acclaimed series such as the award-winning sports documentary Broomgate, hosted by comedian John Cullen. The studio has collaborated with major platforms including CBC, iHeart, Audible, Warner Music, and Sony, working with high-profile talents like Maya Hawke, Rainn Wilson, Jason DeRulo, Anna Faris, William H. Macy, and Doja Cat.
The acquisition will enable New Metric Media to diversify its offerings and create collaborative opportunities across multiple platforms, including television, film, podcasts, digital media, and live events. The integration of Kelly&Kelly into the New Metric team is expected to enhance their capacity for producing innovative content.
Expanding into Video Podcasting
Following the acquisition, Kelly&Kelly plans to pivot further into video podcasting and unscripted content. This strategic alignment complements New Metric’s Stand-up & Podcast division, which was launched in early 2025.
Chris and Pat Kelly expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “New Metric Media is the best-of-the-best when it comes to creating comedy, and joining Mark and the team is an incredible opportunity for us to scale up production and international distribution. Podcasting is evolving, and we’re super-excited to build what’s next.”
New Metric Media’s Founder and CEO, Mark Montefiore, praised the Kellys as pioneers in the podcasting industry. He noted, “They have built a smart and profitable business by making award-winning content that is recognized and consumed globally. These beauties will fit perfectly into New Metric’s creative-first culture that celebrates innovative storytelling and business models.”
Recent Investments and Future Projects
The acquisition comes at a time of growth for New Metric Media, which recently invested in Good Walk Entertainment, led by former Comedy Central President Kent Alterman and ex-Head of Content & Creative Enterprises Sarah Babineau. As the MIPCOM conference unfolds, New Metric is actively exploring new opportunities and partnerships.
Looking ahead, the Canadian production company is working on two new half-hour comedies, Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story and I Kill the Bear, the latter being a new series from Jared Keeso, the creator of Letterkenny.
This acquisition and the accompanying strategic developments are set to position New Metric Media as a formidable player in the evolving landscape of entertainment and podcasting.
