Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel are establishing clear boundaries regarding screen time for their four children. The model recently shared insights on their family’s approach during an appearance on the October 20 episode of Dear Media’s The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show, hosted by Michael Bosstick and Lauryn Bosstick. The couple has specific guidelines that reflect their values surrounding technology use.

Evan Spiegel, the co-founder of Snapchat, is particularly cautious about screen exposure for their younger sons, Hart, aged 7, Myles, aged 6, and Pierre, just 19 months old. According to Kerr, Spiegel’s upbringing heavily influenced his perspective, leading to a strong stance against screens for the younger children. “My husband is very anti-screens for the young ones,” Kerr stated in an exclusive sneak peek shared with E! News.

While Kerr acknowledges her husband’s viewpoint, she has successfully negotiated some screen time, especially for their older children. “I’ve said to him, ‘Look, something that feels good to me is maybe on the weekend or a special occasion, curling up with the kids, the 6 and 7-year-old and the teenager if he wants to join in, and snuggling up and watching a movie,’” she explained. Spiegel agreed to this arrangement but maintains that it should not be a weekly occurrence.

During special times, such as the summer break, Hart was allowed to participate in a program where he learned about “a little Minecraft,” according to Kerr. The rules differ for Flynn, Kerr’s son from her previous marriage to Orlando Bloom, who received his first cellphone at around 13 years old. While Flynn does not have a range of social media accounts, he uses Snapchat, which Kerr notes is “the only way he communicates with his friends.”

Kerr emphasized the importance of understanding technology’s risks and benefits. She appreciates Snapchat’s initiatives, like the Family Center and The Keys, which aim to educate users about online safety. “You watch it with them, and it explains very simply what could go wrong or how to prevent it and when to reach out to someone if you feel like something’s off,” she remarked.

Evan Spiegel has also shared his perspective on tech use in parenting, particularly during the pandemic when Flynn needed a way to connect with peers. “The dam broke and we have not looked back,” he said at the Cannes Lions Festival in 2023. He highlighted the importance of developing critical thinking skills, encouraging Flynn to remain discerning about the information he encounters online. “We encourage [Flynn] to question things,” Spiegel added, noting that “not everything on the internet is true.”
