Adarsh Gourav, the BAFTA-nominated actor known for his roles in “The White Tiger” and “Alien: Earth,” will lead the cast of “Gangster on the Run.” This film, adapted from Puja Changoiwala‘s nonfiction book, tells the compelling story of a Mumbai gangster who transforms his life to become a marathon-running social worker. The project is directed by Prosit Roy, acclaimed for his work on the series “Paatal Lok,” and will feature a screenplay by his regular collaborator, Abhishek Banerjee.

The announcement was made during the WAVES Film Bazaar, part of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. “Gangster on the Run” aims to be a prestige global true-crime drama, with producers actively seeking partnerships for international co-production. Lead producer Sidharth Jain plans to meet potential collaborators at Content London in early December 2023.

In this film, Gourav will portray Rahul Jadhav, a former sharpshooter from Mumbai whose life of violence and addiction has been replaced with a focus on self-reflection and community service. Today, Jadhav works to guide at-risk youth away from the violent paths he once navigated.

“Rahul is one of the most layered, demanding characters I’ve encountered,” Gourav stated. “It’s a role that challenges you deeply as an actor, and I’m excited to work with Prosit on such a raw and universal story.”

Roy emphasized the emotional depth and complexity of Jadhav’s journey. “This gritty, human tale blends redemption, identity, and consequence, resonating universally,” he said.

Producers Jain, Kanchan Marathe, and Rohit Vedprakash are also involved in the film, which has secured partial financing from Filmoney Ink, a Dubai-based fund that focuses on theatrical Indian genre films and international projects. Jain is known for overseeing over 250 book-to-screen adaptations and producing Netflix’s acclaimed series “Trial by Fire.” Marathe brings experience from Netflix and Viacom18, having worked on successful titles like “Andhadhun” and “Jamtara.” Vedprakash, a former director of original content at Netflix India, has credits including “Mismatched” and “The Fame Game.”

“With Prosit and Adarsh joining forces, the film possesses significant artistic strength and potential for international reach,” Jain noted. Marathe highlighted the project’s global appeal, describing it as “a powerful, character-led narrative that resonates beyond its geographical origins.”

Vedprakash added that the combination of the director’s vision and the source material positions the film for success on multiple levels, creatively and commercially. Filmoney Ink, backed by ultra-high-net-worth non-resident Indians in the UAE and the UK, aims to leverage cost efficiencies and IP ownership to bolster its investment strategy.

As production progresses, the team is optimistic about the film’s potential to captivate audiences around the world.
