Rams Dominate Buccaneers, Secure NFC’s Top Seed and Super Bowl Status
The Los Angeles Rams claimed the top spot in the NFC with a decisive 34-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 26, 2023. With this win, the Rams improved their record to 9-2, marking the first time they have held an outright lead in the NFC since Week 13 of the 2018 season, according to ESPN Research.
Head Coach Sean McVay acknowledged the significance of securing the No. 1 seed but emphasized the importance of preparation as the Rams face six more games this season. “I love the way we’ve responded from some setbacks. I love the way that we’ve handled a little bit of success,” McVay stated. “Now let’s see what we can do through 12.”
As the Rams head into the final stretch of the regular season, they will face three teams currently above .500: the Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, and Seattle Seahawks. Despite the challenging schedule, ESPN Analytics projects the Rams as favorites in each of their remaining games.
The Rams are currently viewed as Super Bowl contenders, marking the first time they have been considered favorites for the championship since December 2018. “Our mentality is still just go out each and every week and find a way to win,” said defensive end Kobie Turner. His focus reflects the team’s commitment to maintaining humility and determination as they push for a successful finish.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford has played a crucial role in the Rams’ success, leading the team during their six-game winning streak. Stafford is now favored to win the NFL MVP award, with odds at -185, followed by Drake Maye of the New England Patriots at +210. “He’s playing like the most valuable player in the league,” remarked wide receiver Davante Adams.
During the game against the Buccaneers, Stafford completed 25 of 35 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns, prompting MVP chants from the crowd at SoFi Stadium. “When you got a quarterback like that, it makes it easy on us,” said outside linebacker Jared Verse, acknowledging the confidence Stafford instills in the team.
If Stafford wins the MVP award in 2025, he would become the oldest player in NFL history to receive the honor at that point, according to ESPN Research. He has also achieved a remarkable streak, throwing 27 consecutive touchdown passes without an interception, the longest such streak since play-by-play tracking began in 1978.
“It’s hard to put it in words,” Adams commented on Stafford’s impressive performance. “Most quarterbacks can’t throw 27 passes without throwing a pick.” As the Rams aim to continue their winning momentum, all eyes will be on their upcoming matches, with the potential for both individual accolades and team success on the line.
