Montgomery County Kicks Off Holiday Season with Urgent Events
UPDATE: Montgomery County is launching its holiday season festivities with urgent community events aimed at fostering generosity and service. Over the next few weeks, officials will host several events designed to benefit local families, including two Thanksgiving food drop-off days at the DeKalb Center in Norristown.
The first of these events is set for Thursday, where the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh chapter of Montgomery Township will donate 400 pounds of food. On Friday at 10 a.m., Harriton High School students will deliver Thanksgiving meals to 100 families as part of a long-standing tradition.
As the community comes together to give back, Montgomery County will also hold its Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 1 at 4:30 p.m. This festive gathering will take place on the steps of the Montgomery County Courthouse, located at 2 E. Airy St., Norristown.
“Join us for the lighting of the County Christmas tree, Menorah, and Kinara, along with festive music performed by the Montgomery County Choir,” said a Montgomery County spokesperson. The event aims to unite residents in celebrating the spirit of the season.
In addition to the holiday festivities, the courthouse will host Adoption Day in Courtroom A. This event will celebrate the creation of new forever families and express gratitude to those who support children through foster care and adoption.
Looking ahead, Montgomery County will commemorate the preservation of its 200th farm on Monday, December 15 at 2 p.m. The ceremony at Sitko Christmas Tree Farm in Pottstown, located at 1141 Kepler Road, aims to highlight the county’s commitment to agricultural preservation.
“Through the Montgomery County Farmland Preservation Program, the county purchases agricultural easements on productive farms,” officials stated. This initiative ensures that the land remains in active agricultural use, benefiting future generations.
