Trump Lawyer Declares “War” on Critics at Federalist Society Event
During a recent speech at the Federalist Society’s annual lawyers’ conference, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche delivered a vigorous defense of the Justice Department’s actions, vehemently rejecting accusations of political bias and weaponization of the justice system. His remarks, reported by Politico, particularly resonated with the conservative audience, who responded positively to his provocative statements.
Blanche’s Fiery Defense
Blanche opened his address with a striking critique of the previous administration’s Justice Department, asserting, “What happened the past four years within the United States Department of Justice, I’m going to say a Latin term: bats—t crazy.” This comment elicited laughter from attendees, setting a combative tone for the rest of his speech.
He passionately countered claims of political prosecution, stating, “When I read now that we’re weaponizing, I feel like I’m being gaslit, because we’re doing exactly the opposite.” Blanche defended the integrity of his colleagues, asserting, “I take umbrage at the idea that the work that our prosecutors are doing is weaponization, because I have receipts. I know what happened the past couple of years. I’ve lived it.”
Criticism of Judges and Legal Organizations
Blanche did not shy away from criticizing the judiciary, suggesting that some judges are as politically motivated as certain liberal officials. He remarked, “They have a robe on but they are more political or certainly as political as the most liberal governor or [district attorney]. There’s a group of judges that are repeat players, and that’s obviously not by happenstance, that’s intentional, and it’s a war, man.”
The deputy attorney general also targeted professional legal organizations, particularly the D.C. Bar. He described it as “one of the most activist, obnoxious bars when it comes to going after conservative lawyers. It’s out of this world.”
His comments also extended to the media’s portrayal of immigration policies, implying that journalists unfairly criticize the current administration while ignoring similar statements made by Democratic politicians in the past.
Blanche’s speech was framed within the context of recent high-profile indictments involving political figures, including former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom have pleaded not guilty to their respective charges. Throughout the address, Blanche maintained a tone that characterized the Justice Department’s legal challenges as a significant struggle against what he perceives as politically motivated resistance.
