Woody Harrelson Rules Out True Detective Return, Confirms New Comedy
UPDATE: Woody Harrelson has officially ruled out any return to HBO’s acclaimed series True Detective, making the announcement during an interview on the 3rd Hour of Today on October 31, 2023. The beloved actor, who portrayed Detective Marty Hart in the series’ first season alongside Matthew McConaughey, stated, “Never. Not a chance,” in response to inquiries about reprising his iconic role.
This news comes as fans eagerly anticipate the future of the series, which has seen a variety of stars since its debut season in 2014. Harrelson’s comments echo earlier remarks from McConaughey, who indicated he would consider another season only if both he and Harrelson believed it met their standards.
Harrelson expressed his satisfaction with how True Detective turned out, emphasizing, “If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.” His reflections highlight the impact of the first season, which garnered five Emmy Awards and critical acclaim.
Despite stepping away from True Detective, Harrelson confirmed exciting news: he and McConaughey are reuniting for a new comedy series titled Brother From Another Mother. The show will feature the duo navigating life together on McConaughey’s Texas ranch, adding a fresh comedic twist to their on-screen partnership. Harrelson hinted, “Hopefully people dig it,” though no release date has been set for the upcoming Apple TV series.
The True Detective franchise has evolved significantly since Harrelson and McConaughey first captivated audiences. Subsequent seasons have showcased talents like Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali, and Jodie Foster, but the original duo remains a fan-favorite. With Harrelson’s confirmation of his absence from future seasons, the spotlight now shifts to the anticipated comedy project.
This development is likely to spark discussions among True Detective fans and comedy lovers alike as they await more details about Brother From Another Mother. Stay tuned for updates on Harrelson and McConaughey’s new venture and any potential future projects from the True Detective franchise.
