Former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval Takes Charge at Resorts World
URGENT UPDATE: Resorts World Las Vegas has named former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as its new chair, effective immediately. This change follows the announcement that Jim Murren will transition to the role of chair emeritus, marking a significant shift in leadership at one of Las Vegas’s premier resorts.
The announcement, made today, has major implications for Resorts World Las Vegas as it positions Sandoval, who has been a board member since February 2023, to lead the board of directors. Sandoval, who served as Nevada’s 29th governor from 2011 to 2019, is recognized for his extensive experience in both governance and the gaming industry. He previously held the position of Nevada’s Attorney General and was a member of the Nevada Gaming Commission.
Officials at Resorts World have expressed confidence in Sandoval’s leadership capabilities, emphasizing his vision to advance the property further in a competitive market. Murren, who played a vital role in MGM Resorts’ growth as a former CEO, has recently taken on additional duties as the interim CEO of the UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority following the exit of Kevin Mullally.
In a related development, an appeals court has revived a high-profile lawsuit against Resorts World Las Vegas. The case, involving high roller Robert “R.J.” Cipriani, claims the casino allowed harassment from another player, Robert Alexander, on the gaming floor. Details regarding the timing of the case’s rehearing remain pending.
As Resorts World Las Vegas undergoes these leadership transitions, the property is also strengthening its legal team. In September 2023, the resort appointed Lou Dorn as chief legal officer and corporate secretary, alongside Elizabeth Tranchina as general counsel. These appointments are aimed at navigating ongoing legal challenges more effectively.
As this situation continues to develop, industry analysts and stakeholders will be closely monitoring the impact of Sandoval’s leadership on Resorts World Las Vegas and its response to legal matters. This leadership change is pivotal for the resort’s future direction and operational strategy.
Stay tuned for more updates as we follow these unfolding events at Resorts World Las Vegas.
