Finn Wolfhard Hosts SNL, Jokes About Adult Films with Co-Stars
During his debut as host of Saturday Night Live on January 17, 2025, actor Finn Wolfhard celebrated a reunion with his Stranger Things co-stars Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo while humorously proclaiming they are ready to take on “adult films.” The light-hearted moment captured the attention of viewers and highlighted the trio’s transition from child actors to adults in the entertainment industry.
Wolfhard, now 23, opened his monologue with a playful assertion of his maturity. “I know that a lot of people still see me as a kid but I’m 23 now. I’m proud to officially announce that I am a man,” he stated. The audience erupted in laughter as he showcased his growth by having the SNL cameraman zoom in on his single facial hair, followed by a comedic mishap where he accidentally spit out alcohol onto cast member Marcello Hernández.
As the monologue progressed, McLaughlin and Matarazzo joined Wolfhard on stage, humorously declaring, “Neither are we!” The trio appealed to fans to stop referring to them as “child stars,” emphasizing their evolution to “former child stars.” Matarazzo quipped, “Whenever you read ‘former child star’ in a headline, it can only mean good things.”
The reunion culminated in a group hug, with Wolfhard assuring his friends, “Even though we’re men, you’ll always be my boys!” The comedic tone continued as they concluded the segment with the playful announcement of their readiness to pursue adult film roles.
Reflecting on his time on Stranger Things, Wolfhard shared, “This past year was very bittersweet for me. My show Stranger Things ended.” He noted that the series, which began when he was 12, provided a unique opportunity for a global audience of 400 million to witness his journey through adolescence. “What a dream!” he exclaimed.
The cast also participated in a humorous sketch parodying Sex and the City, which portrayed their characters discussing love lives and personal challenges in a 1990s setting. The sketch humorously culminated in the return of Eleven, portrayed by Kenan Thompson instead of Millie Bobby Brown.
Wolfhard’s appearance on Saturday Night Live followed the release of the final episodes of Stranger Things on New Year’s Eve 2025. The series finale, titled “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” left many fans with unresolved questions, particularly regarding Mike’s narrative of Eleven living peacefully away from Hawkins.
In a separate discussion on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 5, cast member Sadie Sink, who portrayed Max Mayfield, shared her interpretation of the series conclusion. She suggested that Eleven could actually be “dead,” stating, “I think Mike’s story is one last story. Then they say goodbye to childhood, but that is one final tale. It is a coping thing. It is stronger. That is my interpretation.”
Co-star Charlie Heaton, known for his role as Jonathan Byers, echoed similar sentiments in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on January 8. He expressed that Mike’s story serves as a means of coping with loss and emphasized the beauty in the narratives individuals choose to believe.
As fans continue to speculate, a new documentary titled One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 has sparked debates about the creative process behind the series. In one scene, creators Ross and Matt Duffer were seen organizing their ideas in a Google Document, which led to discussions about the potential use of AI tools like ChatGPT. Director Martina Radwan clarified in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that there was no definitive proof of AI being involved in the writing process, stating, “Nobody has actually proved that it was open.”
As Saturday Night Live continues its season with host Teyana Taylor and musical guest Geese on January 24, fans of Stranger Things can now binge-watch the entire series on Netflix. The much-loved show has left an indelible mark on popular culture, and its cast members are ready to embrace new opportunities in their evolving careers.
