Technology consulting firm Genpact has appointed a new role aimed at revolutionizing its approach to artificial intelligence. Jinsook Han has been named the company’s first Global Agentic AI Officer, a position that underscores the growing importance of AI agents in delivering transformative solutions for clients. Han believes that while generative AI has made significant strides, it is the deployment of agentic AI that truly enhances the company’s capabilities and client services.

In her view, previous AI implementations were often limited. Han stated, “From our client service and capabilities perspective, the previous sort of permutations of AI were very limiting. Yes, there was analytics, digital transformation, AI, and ML. But it was not until GenAI started coming up and now, agentic AI—now it’s truly a gift for an industry like ours.” This perspective highlights her commitment to integrating advanced AI into the fabric of Genpact’s operations.

Expanding the AI Landscape at Genpact

Han’s role is multifaceted, encompassing both strategic oversight and operational execution. She collaborates closely with key executives, including Sanjeev Vohra, the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, who is responsible for guiding the company’s architectural direction. Together, they co-chair the Genpact Architectural Review Board, where they assess the efficacy and compliance of the company’s agentic solutions from conception to execution.

Her collaboration extends to Vidya Rao, the Chief Information and Transformation Officer. They focus on implementing agentic AI internally, treating the organization as “client zero” to refine and test their offerings. Han emphasizes her role’s vertical and horizontal dimensions, stating, “I work with everyone in the organization to make sure it’s both horizontal and vertical.”

Redefining Human Involvement in AI

A notable aspect of Han’s approach is her critique of the phrase “human in the loop.” This term is commonly used among executives to suggest that AI operates under human supervision. Han challenges this notion, arguing that the effectiveness of AI does not merely depend on human oversight but on the nature of that involvement. “When the human actually goes in to look at it, what is the human doing? Is the human reshaping, creating, proctoring? What type of a human do you need?” she questioned, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of how human roles intersect with AI technology.

To illustrate her point, Han uses an analogy inspired by her son’s interest in Pokémon cards. Just as players manage a fleet of Pokémon, each with unique strengths and weaknesses, she believes businesses must approach AI agents similarly. Each agent serves specific functions and can lead to different outcomes when combined in various ways. “The reason why I use this in a metaphor is because you gotta know what the battle count of each agent is,” she explained. “And it’s not static.”

As Genpact continues to innovate in the domain of artificial intelligence, Han’s role as Global Agentic AI Officer positions the company at the forefront of industry advancements. Her focus on strategic deployment and effective human involvement will likely shape the future of AI applications within the firm and beyond.
