Boston College tight end Ty Lockwood is gearing up for an exciting new chapter as he prepares for the upcoming football season. The redshirt sophomore recently shared his insights with the media following a training camp session, highlighting the significant role of tight ends in the team’s offensive strategy as a major factor in his decision to join the program.

Lockwood noted his familiarity with the coaching staff, specifically Coach O’Brien and Coach Lawing, who both previously worked at Alabama alongside him. “It was a great opportunity to come up here,” he remarked. “They use the tight end, 12 personnel a lot and just the way they use them — we’re split out, we’re in line, we’re in the backfield. I think it’s just a good opportunity to show your skill set and to be an all-around guy that the NFL is probably looking for.”

As he settles into his role, Lockwood has expressed enthusiasm for his relationship with fellow teammate and starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan. The two previously played together at Alabama before transferring to Boston College. “I think it’s great,” Lockwood said of Lonergan’s performance since earning the starting job. “He’s been doing a really good job. We have phenomenal players, but more importantly phenomenal dudes and phenomenal leaders.”

Lockwood also praised the tight end room, emphasizing the diverse skill sets among his teammates. He identified Zeke Moore as a strong point-of-attack player and commended Kaelan Chudzinski for his route-running abilities. “I’ve been watching film on those guys,” Lockwood explained. “It’s good to see how they do it, and you’re able to put it into your game.”

In addition to his teammates’ strengths, Lockwood highlighted the knowledge and leadership of Jeremiah Franklin. “He’s just a good guy you can go to really whenever and just ask him about the offense, ask him about the plays,” Lockwood said.

As the season draws near, Lockwood remains focused on personal improvement. “We have a lot of great players, and I’m just more so focused on getting better each and every day,” he stated. “That stuff will take care of itself. They’re gonna put the best guys in, and we’ll make plays.”

With the support of a strong coaching staff and a talented roster, Lockwood is poised to make a significant impact at Boston College this season. As fans look forward to the games ahead, his commitment to development and teamwork will be crucial in navigating the challenges that lie ahead on the field.
