NBA Coach Proposes IShowSpeed for College Basketball, Fans React
In a recent episode of IShowSpeed’s YouTube series, *Speed Goes Pro*, NBA shooting coach Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews suggested that the popular streamer could compete in college basketball. The episode, which aired on November 12, featured IShowSpeed training with Matthews and playing alongside NBA star Kevin Durant. While Matthews praised Speed’s athleticism, his assertion sparked a wave of disagreement among fans.
During the fourth episode, IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., trained with Matthews to improve his shooting skills. Matthews remarked, “Watching him now, I don’t say this a lot, that’s a pure athlete right there,” highlighting Speed’s potential during their training sessions. Following this, IShowSpeed participated in a 2v2 game alongside Durant and engaged in various basketball drills with the legendary player.
After the episode aired, Matthews took to Instagram to express his belief that IShowSpeed should be playing NCAA Division I basketball. His statement, “Speed should be playing D1 basketball!” quickly drew mixed reactions from viewers. Many fans took to the comments section to voice their skepticism. One user dismissed the claim, stating, “With a shot that slow. Fawk no,” while another added, “Playing D1 basketball FOR WHO? Stop trolling.”
The varied responses continued, with some fans suggesting that IShowSpeed might be better suited for football rather than basketball. Others echoed doubts about his ability to perform under competitive circumstances, with one commenter noting, “So him hitting 6 wide open 3s in a row means he would be able to play D1 basketball? Come on now lmao.”
IShowSpeed’s training did not end with Matthews; he also worked with athletic performance coach Clif Marshall before his session with Durant. The episode culminated in an impressive performance where Speed unofficially broke the world record for the NBA Combine 3/4 Sprint, clocking in at 2.805 seconds.
For those interested in following IShowSpeed’s journey and his latest sports ventures, the episode is available on his YouTube channel, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. The ongoing discourse surrounding Matthews’ comments reflects the passionate opinions of fans regarding the intersection of entertainment and sports, as well as the evolving role of social media personalities in the athletic world.
