Goldie Hawn Celebrates Daughter Kate Hudson’s Star Power
Goldie Hawn recently expressed her profound admiration for her daughter, Kate Hudson, during an interview with People magazine. Hawn, who is 80 years old, shared her feelings about Hudson’s remarkable talent and their family’s pride in her achievements. This conversation coincided with the promotional efforts for Hudson’s latest film, “Song Sung Blue,” which is set for release on December 25, 2026.
Hawn described Hudson as someone who continually impresses those around her. “We’re so deeply, deeply proud – not a word I use very often – but I’m in awe of Kate, and I think we all are,” she stated. The Oscar-winning actress reflected on the joy of bringing Hudson into the world, emphasizing the unique bond shared between mother and daughter. According to Hawn, “She never stops to surprise me or any of us with her talent.”
In “Song Sung Blue,” directed by Craig Brewer, Hudson stars alongside Hugh Jackman in a biopic that tells the love story between Claire, played by Hudson, and Mike Sardina, portrayed by Jackman. The narrative is based on a 2008 documentary and follows the couple’s experiences in the Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder. Hudson’s performance has already garnered significant attention, earning her nominations for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globes and Best Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2026 Actor Awards.
Hawn elaborated on the shared talents within their family, noting, “It’s instinct. It isn’t learning. We all live together. We’re a family together. And we have genetics that are very similar.” She acknowledged that Hudson comes from a lineage of filmmakers, attributing some of her daughter’s talent to the environment in which she was raised. “We learn by example. We don’t learn by oration, rhetoric, none of that,” Hawn added.
The relationship between Hawn and Hudson has been nurtured over the years. Hawn shares two children with musician Bill Hudson, including son Oliver, born in 1976, and Hudson, born in 1979. The couple was married from 1976 until 1982. Hawn later entered a long-term relationship with actor Kurt Russell, whom she has been with since 1983. Together, they have a son, Wyatt Russell, born in 1986.
Hawn emphasized the importance of balance in life, highlighting the need to manage family, career, and personal interests. “It’s balance – your life, your family, your kids, your things you want to do, and you care about,” she said. She also noted the significance of sharing experiences and knowledge within the family, stating, “Our work is part of what we do, and it isn’t who we are, and those are two different things.”
In the same interview, Hudson addressed the possibility of collaborating with her mother on a film project. “I hope so! It’s got to!” she remarked, suggesting that she might take the initiative to write a screenplay herself if necessary. Hudson has previously discussed her nearly 30-year career in Hollywood, identifying the relationships she has formed as the greatest reward. “I feel so lucky to be involved in a world of people that are just so endlessly fascinating and intelligent,” she reflected.
As Hawn and Hudson continue to navigate their respective careers, their mutual admiration and familial bond remain evident. Both women exemplify the power of talent and the importance of support within a family, showcasing how their shared experiences have shaped their contributions to the entertainment industry.
