Two lottery players in the East Bay have collectively won prizes totaling $15 million from scratch-off tickets purchased this week, as confirmed by the California Lottery. This comes on the heels of last week’s record-setting Powerball draw, where two players from Missouri and Texas shared the second-largest jackpot in history.

Luis Briseno secured a remarkable $10 million from a Royal Riches scratcher, acquired from Fruitvale Bottles & Liquor located at 3715 International Blvd. in Oakland. This victory marks the largest scratch-off jackpot in California since June, when an unnamed winner also claimed $10 million from a ticket purchased at Barley Bin Liquor in Whittier. Another significant win occurred in May, when Steven Muhlestein took home $10 million from a Super Bonus scratcher at Vintage Wine Shoppe & Liquor in Concord.

In addition to Briseno, Catalina Velasco won $5 million this weekend after purchasing a Double the Luck scratcher from the Arco am/pm at 43500 Grimmer Blvd. in Fremont. These wins have added to the excitement surrounding lottery games in California, particularly following last week’s Powerball drawing.

During that Powerball drawing, two Californians each received $1.5 million after correctly selecting the five white ball numbers. Tickets were sold at Love’s Travel Shop in Tehachapi and Circle K in Dublin. The largest Powerball jackpot ever, totaling $2.04 billion, was won in California on November 7, 2022.

As the lottery continues to draw attention, another Powerball drawing is set for this weekend, featuring a $50 million jackpot. Additionally, on Tuesday, players will have the opportunity to compete for a Mega Millions jackpot of up to $400 million. The surge in lottery interest reflects the ongoing allure of substantial cash prizes, capturing the hopes of many across the state and beyond.
