Speaking on the “Invest Like the Best” podcast, Diller shared his philosophy of hiring individuals “without any experience” at the very beginning of their careers. Reflecting on his own career, Diller noted that he began his journey in 1961 after dropping out of UCLA. He entered the entertainment industry through the mailroom of the William Morris Agency. Diller emphasized that he was “totally unprepared” for the responsibilities he was given, yet he learned to navigate challenges by being “dropped in the deep end of the water.” This experience, he believes, is crucial for personal and professional growth.
The IAC and Expedia Group chairman underscored that embracing risk is vital for young professionals. According to Diller, the most effective way to discover talent is by offering opportunities to those who may not yet possess traditional qualifications.
