UPDATE: The Seattle Seahawks have secured a commanding 41-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, propelling them to the NFC Championship Game. This dominant performance took place on January 13, 2024, in Seattle, marking a historic playoff moment for the franchise.

Rashid Shaheed electrified the crowd by returning the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown, making it the fastest score in playoff history at just 13 seconds into the game. This remarkable play also marked the fourth kickoff return for a touchdown to open a playoff game since 2000 and the longest postseason kick return in Seahawks history.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, playing his first playoff game with the Seahawks, completed 12 of 17 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, earning his first career playoff win. Darnold connected with star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the end zone, despite facing pressure after his tumultuous playoff debut last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Seattle’s running back Kenneth Walker III shined brightly, rushing for three touchdowns, tying him with Shaun Alexander for the most in a single playoff game for the franchise. The Seahawks’ offense operated seamlessly, leading 7-0 before the 49ers could respond.

As for the 49ers, they struggled without key players, including All-Pros tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner. San Francisco’s Brock Purdy managed to complete 15 of 27 passes for 140 yards, but he was intercepted and lost a fumble against Seattle’s formidable defense, nicknamed the “Dark Side.” The 49ers’ loss marks their second-most lopsided playoff defeat in franchise history, following a 49-3 loss to the New York Giants in 1986.

Injuries played a significant role in the game. 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey suffered a stinger in the second quarter but returned briefly before sidelining again. Tight end Jake Tonges also exited due to a foot injury. For the Seahawks, running back Zach Charbonnet and left tackle Charles Cross both left the game due to injuries.

Next week, the Seahawks will host either the Chicago Bears or the Los Angeles Rams, with a Super Bowl appearance on the line. The anticipation is palpable as Seattle aims for their fourth trip to the Super Bowl and their first in 11 years.

The 49ers, meanwhile, will regroup and aim to heal for the upcoming season, hoping to bounce back stronger after this disappointing playoff exit.

This decisive win not only highlights the Seahawks’ resilience but also sets the stage for an exciting NFC Championship showdown. Fans are eager to see if Seattle can continue this momentum into the next round.
