Google Introduces Gmail Address Change Feature for Users Worldwide
Google has announced a significant update that allows users to change their existing Gmail addresses without losing any associated data. This much-anticipated feature, which was initially rolled out for Hindi users, is now available in several regions, including Europe, as detailed on Google’s support page.
New Feature Expands to Global Users
This functionality addresses a long-standing request from users who have felt constrained by their original Gmail addresses. Many individuals chose less-than-ideal usernames when they first created their accounts, often due to limited options. With this new feature, users can now modify the part of their email address that comes before the ‘@gmail.com’ domain.
According to Google, “If you choose, you can change your Google Account email that ends in gmail.com to a new address that ends in gmail.com.” This means that users will retain access to their data, including photos, messages, and emails, regardless of the changes made to their email address. The previous Gmail address will automatically become an alternate email, ensuring continuity in communication.
How to Change Your Gmail Address
The option to change your Gmail address is accessible via Google account settings. Users should visit http://myaccount.google.com/google-account-email and navigate to Personal Info, then Email, followed by Google Account email, where they can initiate the change. It is important to note that this feature is being rolled out gradually, so it may not be available to all users immediately.
Once the change is made, both the old and new email addresses will function interchangeably for signing into Google services. Users can revert to their previous email address at any time; however, they cannot create a new Gmail address for 12 months after making the change. Additionally, users will not have the option to delete their new email address.
This update reflects Google’s commitment to improving user experience and responding to customer feedback. As more users gain access to this feature, it is expected to enhance the overall satisfaction of Gmail users globally.
For further details on how to utilize this feature, users can refer to Google’s official support documentation, which provides comprehensive guidance on the process.
