Nationwide Recall of Chocolate Bars Due to Salmonella Risk
A nationwide recall has been issued for a specific batch of chocolate bars due to concerns about potential contamination with Salmonella. Spring & Mulberry announced the voluntary recall of its Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar (2.1 oz) on January 12, 2026. The decision follows routine testing that indicated the presence of the bacterial infection, which can lead to serious health issues.
The affected product is identified by lot code #025255, which is printed on the packaging. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with this batch as of the recall date, the company emphasized the importance of this action to protect public health.
Health Risks Associated with Salmonella
Salmonella poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations. Individuals with weakened immune systems, the elderly, pregnant women, and young children are at heightened risk if they consume contaminated products. Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. In severe cases, complications such as arterial infections or endocarditis may arise.
Spring & Mulberry stated, “Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.” The company encourages anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.
Recall Details and Consumer Instructions
Consumers can identify the recalled Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar by its teal packaging and the flavor name “Mint Leaf.” It has been distributed nationwide through online channels and select retail partners since September 15, 2025. Spring & Mulberry has taken this precautionary measure after identifying the contamination risk during third-party laboratory testing.
Customers who have purchased the affected product are advised to dispose of it immediately. To obtain a refund, Spring & Mulberry requests that consumers contact them at [email protected] and include a photograph of the lot code from the packaging. Customer support is available at the same email for any additional questions.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plays a crucial role in monitoring product recalls and providing consumer guidance. Although the FDA does not endorse specific products or companies, its Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts portal offers current information on all ongoing recalls. For detailed instructions regarding food recalls, consumers can visit the FDA’s recall homepage or call 1-888-INFO-FDA for concerns about product safety.
Spring & Mulberry’s proactive recall aligns with FDA guidelines for voluntary withdrawals. By taking swift action, the company aims to prevent any potential health risks associated with the recalled chocolate bars.
