Davidson’s late-game heroics showcased her talent as she cut sharply to the basket, receiving an inbounds pass from Kennedy Smith. The freshman’s decisive play underscored her crucial role in the Trojans’ comeback, especially after trailing by as much as 11 points in the fourth quarter.
USC, now 2-0 this season, was also powered by Londynn Jones, who contributed 19 points, while Smith added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
The Wolfpack, currently 1-1, were led by Zoe Brooks, who put up an impressive 24 points and 11 rebounds. Following Davidson’s game-winning shot, USC’s Malia Samuels registered a critical steal from Brooks, preventing N.C. State from reclaiming the lead. The Wolfpack had one last chance with less than two seconds left, but Smith intercepted the inbounds pass, sealing the game for the Trojans.
N.C. State initially seized control of the game with an 8-0 run late in the third quarter, highlighted by a transition three-pointer from Zam Jones. Brooks’ free throw at the start of the fourth quarter marked the Wolfpack’s largest lead of the game. However, USC rallied, outscoring N.C. State 19-7 in the closing moments to clinch the victory.
This thrilling win comes as USC navigates the season without reigning National Player of the Year JuJu Watkins, who is sidelined due to a knee injury. However, the dynamic trio of Davidson, Jones, and Smith demonstrated their capability to lead the Trojans effectively.
