Prime Video has officially announced a feature film to serve as the conclusion to the beloved young adult series, The Summer I Turned Pretty. This news was revealed during the series finale red carpet celebration in Paris, France, with an Instagram post featuring stars Lola Tung and Christopher Briney in front of a marquee displaying “The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie.” The film aims to continue the narrative of Belly, portrayed by Tung, and her friends after the third and final season.

The announcement has generated excitement among fans, as the series has garnered significant attention since its debut in 2022. According to Amazon, the premiere of Season 3 attracted 25 million viewers globally within its first week. The series, rooted in Jenny Han‘s original novels, has been characterized as a “multigenerational drama,” exploring themes of love, family dynamics, and the emotional experiences associated with first love and heartbreak.

Jenny Han, who authored the book series and co-developed the television adaptation, will take the reins as both the screenwriter and director for the upcoming film. In her statement, Han expressed her gratitude to Prime Video for their continued support of her vision. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” she said.

The specifics of the film’s plot remain undisclosed, but fans have noted that the series finale did not incorporate the epilogue from Han’s novels, suggesting that the film may explore this narrative further. The cast is expected to include familiar faces such as Tung, Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer.

The series has resonated deeply with viewers, creating moments of nostalgia and connection. In a joint statement, Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, global head of television, highlighted the show’s impact. “The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere… We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

As anticipation builds for the film, fans eagerly await further details on the continuation of Belly’s story, promising to deliver both closure and excitement to a series that has captivated many.
