Lucky Collie Rescued After 100-Foot Cliff Plunge in Shetland
A two-year-old collie named Whisp survived a dramatic fall from nearly 100 feet down a cliff on the Shetland island of Heylor. The incident occurred on March 14, 2024, prompting a swift response from the local HM Coastguard who reported the event on social media.
The coastguard was alerted to Whisp’s fall around 11:10 a.m. and quickly mobilized a rescue team. Due to the challenging terrain, rescuers could not approach from the seaside, necessitating a rope rescue to bring the dog back up the steep cliff face. Within three hours, they successfully hoisted Whisp back to safety, having traversed approximately 98 feet.
In a statement, the coastguard described the outcome as fortunate, noting that Whisp was “safe and well” following the troubling incident. Remarkably, the collie was deemed “remarkably unscathed,” a testament to his resilience.
