UPDATE: A remarkable story is unfolding as Aliya Brooks, a 25-year-old entrepreneur, launches a mobility business inspired by her grandmother, Mildred “Millie” Cruzat, who taught dance and healthy living until she passed away in 2021 at the age of 94. This initiative, named Ageless Mobility, aims to promote lifelong health and wellness, making waves as it addresses the aging population’s needs.

Brooks credits her grandmother with instilling crucial values about fitness, nutrition, and age perception. Millie, a former Broadway dancer, defied conventional notions of aging by teaching dance classes until she was 93. She impacted countless lives, ranging from children to seniors, through her dedication and passion for movement.

“I realized I had to show other people what she was doing,” Brooks stated, reflecting on her grandmother’s influence. After spending time with Millie during the pandemic, she began documenting Millie’s daily routines, emphasizing the importance of mobility and healthy living.

Millie’s mantra of “everything in moderation” shaped her approach to nutrition. She enjoyed a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables while treating herself to her favorite chocolate cake and coffee with multiple creams and sugars. This balanced lifestyle, coupled with her daily seven-mile walks, contributed to her remarkable fitness levels well into her nineties.

Brooks, who is currently based in Atlanta, has made it her mission to carry on Millie’s legacy through Ageless Mobility, offering subscription-based stretch videos and in-person classes at various venues. She aims to create a supportive community focused on mobility and health.

The passing of Millie left a significant impact on Brooks, who now seeks to honor her grandmother’s final wish of teaching classes at Spelman College. “Teaching her lessons could be a good way to honor her wishes,” Brooks said, revealing her intentions for expansion, including a retreat planned for next year.

With this new venture, Brooks is not only keeping Millie’s spirit alive but also promoting a vital message: aging does not have to be a decline in health and vitality. Her story serves as an inspirational reminder that age is just a number, and a commitment to mobility and healthy habits can lead to a fulfilling life at any age.

As the demand for wellness solutions continues to grow, Brooks’ initiative is poised to make a significant mark in the health and wellness landscape. The legacy of Mildred Cruzat lives on through her granddaughter’s efforts, encouraging individuals of all ages to embrace an active lifestyle.
