BREAKING: Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez is set to begin a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday, signaling a crucial step towards his return after over three months on the sidelines. This development comes after Alvarez has been out since May 3 due to a small fracture in his right hand, initially misdiagnosed as a muscle strain.

It’s really good news,” Astros manager Joe Espada stated. “The fact that he’s feeling better and we’re getting to a point where we can see him back is awesome.” Alvarez’s return could provide a significant boost for the Astros as they prepare for the postseason.

Alvarez was in Houston on Sunday before the team’s series finale against Baltimore, having just returned from the Astros’ spring training facility in Florida. This gave Espada a chance to discuss Alvarez’s condition directly. “He is feeling better,” Espada confirmed. “Good enough to start a rehabilitation assignment.”

While Espada noted that Alvarez would need “a few games before joining our club,” he refrained from specifying the exact number of games or at-bats required. “We’re going to start with Tuesday and then we’ll go from there,” he added. For his first game back, Alvarez is expected to serve as the team’s designated hitter.

The return of Alvarez is timely, as the Astros currently lead the AL West with a 1.5-game advantage over the Seattle Mariners. Last season, Alvarez led the Astros with a remarkable batting average of .308, along with 35 home runs and 86 RBIs. In the limited time he played this season, he recorded a batting average of .210 with three homers and 18 RBIs in just 29 games.

As the Astros gear up for the stretch run of the season, Alvarez’s health and performance will be pivotal. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how quickly he can regain his form and impact the team. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Alvarez’s rehab assignment unfolds.
