WWE Legend Jerry Lawler Suffers Minor Stroke, Cancels Appearances

URGENT UPDATE: WWE legend Jerry Lawler, aged 75, suffered a “minor” stroke on Friday at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. According to a statement from his caregiver, Lawler has been released from the hospital and cleared to return home to Memphis, but he will face a period of recovery.
The stroke reportedly affected Lawler’s right side and caused “slight” impairment to his vision. Despite this, he is able to walk and talk, according to details shared with Memphis Fox13. The caregiver, who is identified as Lawler’s ex-fiancée, indicated that he will take time off to heal, canceling several upcoming appearances, including this weekend’s HorrorHound event in Cincinnati.
“We received word that, due to some personal matters, Jerry Lawler is unable to get to Cincinnati this weekend,” the event organizers posted on Facebook. “The King hopes to make up the appearance in 2026.”
This marks at least the third stroke Lawler has suffered since 2018. He previously faced significant health challenges, including a stroke in March 2018 that he described as occurring during sex, which led to a hospitalization for a brain hemorrhage. In 2023, he was hospitalized again due to what was characterized as a “serious medical episode,” prompting him to communicate his recovery process via social media.
In a post on X, Lawler stated, “Update on Jerry: After suffering a massive stroke Monday, he is now recovering in a Fort Myers, FL hospital. His speech is limited, but with rehabilitation, he will regain a full recovery. He thanks everyone for the continued prayers and will be back in the near future.”
Lawler, known as “The King,” has had a storied career in wrestling, gaining fame in the territorial scene before joining WWE (then WWF) in the early 1990s. Throughout his career, he transitioned into a beloved commentary role, partnering with Jim Ross to call major events like “Raw” and “SmackDown.”
However, WWE did not renew his contract last year after over three decades behind the microphone. Lawler himself attributed this decision to his health struggles during an interview last October, stating, “Well, my health has been a big problem for me lately. I had a couple of strokes. That’s what cost me my deal with WWE.”
As Lawler takes this time to recover, fans and followers are hoping for his swift return to health and the wrestling community. His previous health issues underscore the importance of support during recovery, as he continues to navigate the challenges posed by these medical setbacks.
