UPDATE: Worth County Rams have clinched a spot in the Final Four of Georgia high school football, defeating Gordon Lee 17-7 in a gritty battle at Milt Miller Stadium on Friday night. The unbeaten Rams, now standing at 13-0, overcame turnovers and penalties to secure their victory and advance to the Class A Division I playoffs.

The Rams will face off against Pepperell (9-4), who dominated Rabun County with a decisive 34-0 win in their quarterfinal matchup. This next game will be crucial as Worth County aims for the prestigious state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Friday’s clash was a test of resilience and determination. Worth County’s head coach Jeff Hammond praised his team, stating, “This week, the defense carried the offense. Last week the offense carried the defense. That’s what good teams do. We did what we needed to win.”

Both teams faced early challenges. Worth County’s defense made a significant impact right from the start, with Dewhite Council intercepting a pass on Gordon Lee’s opening drive. However, the Rams quickly faced adversity as a fumble on their first offensive play shifted momentum back to the Trojans.

Gordon Lee mounted a strong response, pushing deep into Rams territory. Yet, Worth County’s defense, led by Chance Sims, King Toomer, and Brady Weaver, held firm, thwarting a field goal attempt on fourth down.

After a slow start, Worth County found their rhythm, with quarterback Lyndon Worthy connecting on key passes. A crucial 7-yard touchdown run from Kaden Chester put the Rams on the board at 7-0. Just before halftime, Gordon Lee equalized with a touchdown from Layne Vaughn, making it 7-7.

The second half began with more tension. Worth County reclaimed the lead with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Worthy to Frederick Jones, despite facing multiple penalties that frustrated the home crowd. The Rams extended their lead to 14-7, showing their grit and determination.

As the game progressed, Worth County’s defense stepped up, with linebacker Josh McGee making pivotal plays in the fourth quarter. A final field goal from Brodey Hancock sealed the victory at 17-7, ensuring Worth County’s place in the Final Four.

With their eyes set on the championship, Worth County remains undefeated and ranked No. 1, proving they can adapt and thrive under pressure. Fans are eager for their next challenge against Pepperell, who is poised to bring their best game to Sylvester. The excitement is palpable as the Rams are just one victory away from the ultimate prize in Georgia high school football.

Stay tuned for updates as Worth County prepares for this crucial showdown, determined to continue their winning streak and make history.
