BREAKING: The Westwood Lady Cats have kicked off their 2025 softball season with a thrilling 10-6 victory over Westover at the Baconton Charter tournament. This exciting match unfolded on Saturday, highlighting the Lady Cats’ determination and skill right from the start.

Westover struck first with a quick lead, as Delijah Spears, Timeria Neal, and Sydney Donaldson connected for three consecutive singles, pushing a run across in the first inning. They extended their lead to 2-0 when Lauren Edwards scored on a wild pitch in the second. However, the tide turned as Westwood responded aggressively.

In a remarkable show of resilience, Westwood answered back with two runs in the second inning, followed by a staggering six runs in the third. Key contributions from Abby Lanier and Raylee Gray, coupled with two errors from Westover, allowed the Lady Cats to seize control of the game.

The third inning was a turning point, as Ellie Kichler, Lynlee Sanders, and Emma Shiver set the stage with singles before Bentley Palmer delivered a clutch two-run double to right field, stretching Westwood’s lead to an impressive 10-2.

Despite the deficit, Westover fought valiantly in the fourth inning. Janiyah Winslow hit a pivotal two-run double, bringing in Donaldson and Morgan Polite, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. The team managed one final run in the fifth, thanks to three walks and a hit batter.

Bentley Palmer shone on the mound, pitching all five innings for Westwood, allowing nine hits, issuing seven walks, and striking out eight batters. Mikiyah Lee was tagged with the loss for Westover.

The Lady Cats are set to continue their momentum with a road game against Flint River Academy on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Westover will host Sumter County on Thursday in Albany, looking to bounce back after this tough opener.

This season promises to be exciting for both teams, and fans are eager to see how they evolve. Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses!
