Westwood Football Dominates Ramsey to Capture Title, 32-6
UPDATE: Westwood football has just secured its third sectional championship in four years, decisively defeating Ramsey, 32-6, in the NJSIAA/Xfinity North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 final. The victory unfolded on November 14, 2025, in Washington Township, showcasing the Cardinals’ dominance right from the start.
Just 25 seconds into the game, senior star Steve Klein, a Boston College commit, broke multiple tackles to score on a stunning 55-yard touchdown run. This early score set the tone for the top-seeded Westwood team, which never looked back, controlling the game throughout. Klein, who finished with 101 rushing yards on just nine carries, also converted a two-point conversion, giving Westwood an immediate 8-0 lead.
The Cardinals, boasting an impressive 11-1 record this season, displayed a formidable defense, forcing three turnovers and limiting their opponents to eight points or less in six games. Westwood expanded its lead with a 41-yard fumble return touchdown by Connor Reade late in the first quarter, followed by two rushing touchdowns from sophomore quarterback Bruno Vega. Vega scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and a critical 19-yard scramble on a 4th-and-14 play in the third quarter.
Ramsey, which had entered the finals with a three-game winning streak and a prior victory over Westwood earlier in the season, managed to score a consolation touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run from Jonathan Davis. Despite this, the Rams fell to 8-3 on the season, still seeking their first title since 2009.
Next up, Westwood will host Shabazz, the champion of North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2, in the Group 2 semifinals next Friday. This match will serve as a chance for Klein and the Cardinals to avenge last year’s semifinal defeat to the Newark school.
As the excitement builds for the upcoming games, Westwood fans can celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement and look forward to more thrilling moments on the field. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
