Victor Wembanyama Achieves 100th Game Block Milestone in Spurs Win
UPDATE: Victor Wembanyama has made history! Last night, the San Antonio Spurs center achieved his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block during a commanding 126-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
In a performance that highlighted his defensive prowess, Wembanyama scored a team-high 26 points, delivered 12 assists, and recorded 2 blocks. The first came when he rejected a shot from the Hawks’ Dyson Daniels with just over five minutes left in the third quarter, sending the ball off the backboard. He followed that up by swatting away a layup from rookie Asa Newell.
This remarkable streak, which dates back to his rookie season, underscores Wembanyama’s impact on the court. His last game without a block was on January 10, 2024, against the Detroit Pistons. With this achievement, he joins an elite group of players; only two others have reached this milestone. Patrick Ewing holds the record with 145 consecutive games with at least one block, while Dikembe Mutombo recorded 116 games.
Wembanyama’s performance this season has been nothing short of spectacular. He now has a total of 51 blocks this season, despite missing 12 games due to a calf strain sustained in a loss to Golden State on November 14. He returned to action on December 13 during the NBA Cup semifinals, where he contributed 22 points to help the Spurs secure a 111-109 victory over the Thunder.
The Spurs, now boasting a record of 20-7, have reached their 20th win more than a month earlier than they did last season. This surge positions them strongly as they head into their next matchup against the Washington Wizards on the road this Sunday night.
Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Wembanyama can extend his impressive streak further, as the Spurs look to build on their strong start this season. With games coming up against tough opponents, his performance will be crucial in maintaining the team’s momentum.
As the NBA season unfolds, Wembanyama’s historic achievement is not just a personal milestone; it’s a testament to the rising star’s potential and the excitement surrounding the Spurs this year. Stay tuned for more updates on his journey and the Spurs’ season as they aim for greater heights.
