Vallejo School District Announces Urgent Town Halls for Community Input

UPDATE: The Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) is set to host two urgent town hall meetings this month, aiming to engage the community regarding significant school closures and consolidations. The second Closure and Consolidation Town Hall is scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2023, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Vallejo High School Auditorium, located at 840 Nebraska Street.
Families and community members are strongly encouraged to attend, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to district leadership. In response to community needs, a third town hall will be conducted entirely in Spanish on Tuesday, October 29, 2023, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This session will be held online to enhance participation for Spanish-speaking families.
Superintendent Rubén Aurelio emphasized the importance of these meetings, stating,
“These meetings are an important opportunity for us to listen, share accurate information, and work together on solutions.”
He added, “We want every family to have access to this process, which is why adding a dedicated Spanish-language town hall is so important.”
Additionally, a final town hall is planned for Tuesday, November 18, 2023, at the Family Support Center Gym, located at 2833 Tennessee St.. These gatherings are crucial as the district finalizes recommendations later this year. All town halls will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel, with recordings available for those unable to attend. Spanish language and American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the in-person meetings on October 20 and November 18.
This initiative reflects VCUSD’s commitment to community engagement amid significant changes. For more information, including meeting dates, livestream links, and feedback submission options, visit VCUSD’s closure and consolidation webpage.
