Vallejo Drivers Beware: New Law Targets 100+ mph Speeders
URGENT UPDATE: A new pilot program is now in effect in Vallejo, California, targeting drivers who exceed 100 mph on highways. Under the Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets (FAST) initiative, drivers caught speeding at this extreme level could face immediate suspension or revocation of their driving privileges.
This initiative, launched by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), comes in response to a shocking 52 percent increase in traffic fatalities and serious injuries across California since 2010. Speeding has been identified as a contributing factor in 32 percent of all traffic-related deaths, according to the California State Transportation Agency.
Authorities report that Vallejo experienced 13 fatal traffic collisions in 2025, with a total of 16 traffic-related fatalities for the year. This alarming trend has prompted local officials to take decisive action.
Under the FAST program, any driver cited by the CHP for exceeding 100 mph will automatically have their citation sent to the DMV’s Driver Safety Branch, regardless of their driving history. The DMV will then assess the driver’s history and may impose penalties that include suspension or revocation of driving rights, independent of any court rulings.
The program, which commenced in late December, is set to run for a year before being evaluated based on citation and outcome data. Each month, CHP officers typically issue around 1,600 citations to those caught driving over 100 mph. In 2024, over 18,000 citations were issued statewide.
“We want to take immediate action against dangerous drivers before their carelessness leads to a deadly crash,” stated DMV Director Steve Gordon. “We’re being proactive, and together with our CHP partners, we’re ready to put the brakes on this reckless behavior.”
Support for the program is strong among local law enforcement. “The CHP supports anything that improves safety and will monitor the pilot program’s effectiveness,” remarked Officer Scott Heitman of the Solano CHP. Rashad Hollis, Vallejo police spokesman, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for accountability in addressing extreme speeding to reduce serious collisions.
This initiative not only aims to curb reckless driving but also seeks to ensure the safety of all road users in Vallejo and beyond. With the FAST program now in place, drivers are urged to adhere to speed limits or risk losing their licenses.
As this program unfolds, residents and drivers in Vallejo should stay informed about its progress and the potential implications for roadway safety. The DMV will continue monitoring the situation closely, aiming to create a safer driving environment for everyone.
