ALBANY, GA — A shocking incident unfolded Tuesday morning as a car theft escalated into chaos, with gunfire exchanged and a body discovered nearby. Just hours ago, the Albany Police Department reported that a stolen vehicle was spotted by its owner and others near the intersection of Gillionville Road and Westover Boulevard.

The car had been stolen overnight from the 2900 block of Stonewater Drive. As the owner attempted to reclaim their vehicle, the alleged thieves fled the scene, wrecking the car at Partridge Drive. In a dangerous turn, one of the suspects fired multiple shots while escaping, although thankfully, no injuries were reported. Witnesses described seeing three individuals running towards an alley, prompting an immediate police response. The investigation into this alarming incident is ongoing.

In a separate and unrelated event, the Dougherty County Coroner confirmed the discovery of a body at the Marsh Landing Apartments around 11:30 a.m. on the same day. The deceased, identified as a middle-aged white male, apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The coroner’s office, led by Michael Fowler, is withholding the victim’s name pending family notification.

The Dougherty County Police Department is actively investigating both incidents, emphasizing a commitment to public safety. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

As details continue to emerge, this unfolding situation has left many in the Albany community on edge. Stay tuned for updates on both the car theft and the investigation into the tragic discovery at Marsh Landing.
