Urgent Update: Philip Donecker Passes Away at 26 After Battle

UPDATE: Philip Craig Donecker, just 26 years old, has tragically passed away at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, following a courageous battle with illness on September 6, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, his loss is felt deeply within the community.

Born on July 9, 1999, in Hays, Kansas, Philip was a talented master installer for Renewal by Anderson. A proud graduate of Central Plains High School Class of 2018, he later received his associate’s degree in construction management from North Central Kansas Tech in Hays. His professional and personal achievements have left a significant impact on those who knew him.

Philip’s roots run deep in the community of Claflin, where he was raised with love and support from his parents, Jeffery Donecker and Michelle (Viescas) Smee. A devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, he was known for his unwavering faith and vibrant spirit. Philip enjoyed various activities including snowboarding, golfing, and hunting, but it was his relationships that truly defined him.

Described as a guiding light, Philip was a cherished friend and a loving big brother. He was the heart of a close-knit group of friends and a beloved figure at the Dead-End Bar in Wichita, where he served as CEO. His nickname, along with his warm personality, made him unforgettable to all who crossed his path.

Philip is survived by his parents, siblings, and numerous family members including his girlfriend, Isabelle “Izzy” Cannata. The community mourns the loss of a young man who had so much to offer and who was loved by many.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Central Plains Junior-Senior High School in Claflin, with Pastor Kenton Abbott and Pastor Daniel Harders officiating. Following the service, Philip will be laid to rest at Claflin Cemetery. Visitation will occur on September 10th from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and September 11th from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the latter date.
