URGENT UPDATE: Five individuals, including a 7-year-old girl, have suffered serious injuries due to fireworks incidents on Oahu during the New Year’s holiday. Honolulu Emergency Services (EMS) has reported multiple emergency responses linked to dangerous fireworks, raising alarms across the community.

The first incident occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. on December 31, when paramedics treated the young girl at a Nana Place address in Kaneohe. She sustained burns to her extremities and was transported to a hospital in serious condition, according to EMS officials.

Just minutes later, at 12:10 a.m. on January 1, another urgent call led EMS to a Liula Street address, also in Kaneohe. Here, three adults were treated for injuries associated with a suspected fireworks blast. A 63-year-old woman suffered a traumatic abdominal injury, while a 65-year-old woman experienced serious injuries to both lower extremities. Both were taken to the hospital in serious condition. A man in his sixties sustained a minor injury but declined further medical transport.

At 12:15 a.m., EMS responded to a third incident on Waipio Point Access Road, where a 48-year-old man was treated for a head injury and subsequently transported to a hospital in serious condition.

These injuries come despite increased enforcement and new regulations aimed at curbing the use of illegal fireworks, following a tragic incident last New Year’s Eve that resulted in the deaths of six individuals in Aliamanu. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and adhere to the laws regarding fireworks usage.

As investigations continue, officials emphasize the need for community safety and the importance of reporting illegal fireworks activities. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and vigilant as the situation develops.

Stay tuned for updates as authorities work to address the fallout from these incidents and ensure the safety of the community moving forward.
