UPDATE: A serious accident on U.S. Highway 12 in Lewis County has left a truck driver hospitalized following a brake failure. The incident occurred at approximately 11:24 a.m. on October 20, 2023, when a semi-truck, driven by Guillermo S. Rodriguez, age 59, lost control and crashed into the guardrail.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, Rodriguez was traveling west on U.S. Highway 12 near milepost 139, close to the junction with state Route 123, when the truck’s brakes failed. The vehicle rolled over before colliding with the guardrail. Authorities confirm that Rodriguez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Rodriguez was transported to Arbor Health Morton Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The circumstances surrounding the crash have led to a citation for second-degree negligent driving, with the state patrol indicating that the truck was traveling at “speeds too fast” when the accident occurred. Importantly, no drugs or alcohol were involved in this incident.

This developing story highlights the urgent nature of road safety and the potential dangers posed by mechanical failures. As investigations continue, local authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to speed regulations to prevent similar incidents.
