Urgent Recall: Kirkland Tuna Poke at Costco Linked to Listeria

UPDATE: An urgent recall has been issued for Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold at Costco due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall was announced by Western United Fish Company on September 18, 2025, affecting approximately 3,315 pounds of the product.
This alarming situation comes amid rising concerns over food safety, particularly in ready-to-eat items from major retailers. Just months ago, Costco faced a separate tuna recall linked to botulism risks, highlighting ongoing challenges in food safety for both the industry and regulators.
The recalled product, packaged at Costco deli sections, has a sell-by date of September 22, 2025, and has been distributed across at least 32 states including Alabama, Alaska, California, Florida, New York, Texas, and Washington. So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall.
Consumers are urged to avoid eating the recalled poke and return it to their local Costco for a full refund. Alternatively, they can dispose of it securely. Symptoms of listeriosis can range from mild, such as fever and muscle aches, to severe conditions including headaches, confusion, and convulsions. Those particularly vulnerable include young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women should be especially cautious, as listeriosis can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.
Western United Fish Company initiated the recall following a positive test for Listeria in the product’s green onions. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that consumers remain vigilant for symptoms associated with listeriosis and seek medical attention if they experience any illness after consuming the affected poke.

The FDA is closely monitoring this situation and encourages manufacturers to review their safety protocols. Updates regarding the recall will be posted on the FDA’s notification channels and website. Consumers are advised to keep track of this and any future recalls through official FDA channels.
