Urgent Evacuations Ordered as Wildfire Rages in Napa County

UPDATE: Urgent evacuation orders are now in effect as the Pickett Fire continues to blaze through California’s renowned Napa County, with the inferno having consumed nearly 4,690 acres since it ignited Thursday afternoon. As of Saturday, the fire remains only 7% contained, prompting officials to act swiftly to protect residents.
This developing situation is critical as Napa County, famous for its vineyards, faces a fiery threat reminiscent of the devastating 2020 Glass Fire. Officials stress, however, that conditions this time are significantly different. Cal Fire operations section chief Jeremy Pierce reassured the public, stating, “
That Glass Fire is an everlasting memory. That being said, these are not anywhere close to the same conditions as the Glass Fire.
”
Pierce emphasized that the Pickett Fire is driven by slope and fuel factors rather than extreme weather. Currently, at least 1,230 personnel, supported by 80 fire engines and 7 helicopters, are actively fighting the flames, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Simultaneously, another significant wildfire, the Flat Fire, has erupted in central Oregon, scorching over 3,300 acres since its start on Thursday. The Jefferson County sheriff’s department reports that the Flat Fire has grown “significantly” overnight, driven by persistent heat and dry conditions. Areas near the Lake Billy Chinook reservoir have been upgraded to Level 3 evacuation status, the highest in the state, with authorities urging residents to “leave immediately” due to the imminent threat.
Residents are cautioned: “
If you choose to ignore this advisement, you must understand that emergency services may not be available to assist you further. DO NOT delay leaving to gather any belongings or make efforts to protect your home. This will be the last notice you receive.
”
As these wildfires rage, the need for immediate action cannot be overstated. The situation is evolving rapidly, and residents must remain vigilant. The communities affected by these fires are in a race against time, underscoring the urgency of evacuation and safety measures. Further updates on containment efforts and fire developments are expected as authorities work tirelessly to manage these blazes.
Stay tuned for critical updates as this situation unfolds.
