UPDATE: The city of Durango is set to launch its annual Fall Cleanup program on September 29, giving residents a critical opportunity to dispose of leaves and tree limbs before winter sets in. This initiative is vital as it helps keep neighborhoods clean and reduces fire hazards from dry organic debris.

Starting this Saturday, city crews will collect organic materials block-by-block, following a strict schedule throughout late September and into October. Residents are urged to prepare for this event immediately, as crews will not return once they finish a designated area.

According to the official announcement, residents should place their organic matter at the curb, where they typically leave trash and recycling bins, by the evening before their scheduled pickup. This year, crews will only collect natural debris—anything beyond leaves and tree limbs will not be picked up.

For those looking to extend their cleanup efforts, a partnership with Table to Farm Compost will offer an on-demand leaf pickup service from September 30 to December 6. This service allows residents to compost leaves responsibly. To participate, residents must use 30-gallon compostable paper bags—plastic bags will be rejected.

It’s crucial for residents to sign up for this composting service through Table to Farm Compost’s website after preparing their bags. The city advises against sealing these bags with tape or staples to ensure maximum efficiency during pickup.

Residents interested in participating should act quickly, as the Fall Cleanup is a limited-time opportunity. With the leaves beginning to fall, this is the perfect moment to declutter lawns and help maintain the beauty of Durango.
