URGENT UPDATE: As Thanksgiving approaches this Thursday, November 23, 2023, many will be making plans for the holiday. Here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed across the nation this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving, a day for gratitude and family gatherings, has its roots in a 1621 harvest feast between the Wampanoag tribe and English colonists in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Officially designated a national holiday by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, it has since been a time for reflection and community.

This year, federal, state, and local government offices will be CLOSED, with most also shuttered on Friday. This includes Solano County Superior Courts and public schools, which will remain closed throughout the holiday weekend.

While many major retailers like Walmart, Target, Costco, and Kohl’s will also be CLOSED, some essential services will remain open. Notably, 24-hour stores such as Walgreens and CVS will operate, along with select grocery stores including Nugget, Raley’s, Lucky, Safeway, and Whole Foods, albeit with modified hours. It’s wise to call ahead or check online for specifics.

Dining options will vary significantly; while many restaurants will close their doors, others—particularly fast-food chains like McDonald’s, Denny’s, IHOP, and Starbucks—are expected to welcome customers with open locations.

In the financial sector, banks and credit unions will be CLOSED, but transactions can still be processed through online banking and ATMs. Expect delays for direct deposits or fund transfers until services resume on Friday.

The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver regular mail, and both UPS and FedEx will halt their services for the day, resuming operations on Friday.

For those relying on public transportation, SolTrans and FAST (Fairfield) will not operate on Thanksgiving Day. However, SolTrans will run on a Saturday schedule starting Friday, with updated service hours available on their website.

In another important note, trash collection for Solano County customers will be affected; there will be no service on Thursday, pushing normal pickups to Friday and Saturday.

This Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends, so make sure to check the status of your local services and be prepared for potential changes. Stay up-to-date with local announcements to ensure a smooth holiday experience.

Prepare now, and share this information to help others in your community!
