SWCC Chefs Ignite Campus with Gourmet Cooking Videos
UPDATE: The SWCC Chefs kitchen is officially OPEN at Southwestern Community College, and students are flocking to experience gourmet cooking right from their dorms. Chefs Gunner Namanny and Kegan Croghan have taken campus life by storm with their engaging cooking videos, captivating a growing audience on social media.
Just announced, their TikTok channel, SWCC Chefs, launched on September 9, showcasing culinary creativity in a college setting. The duo, accompanied by social media manager Ryan Bower, has already amassed 800 followers in just over a month, proving that college students can whip up much more than ramen and snacks.
The idea sparked during a casual cooking session when Chef Gunner said, “We were like making steaks or something and we got this bright idea to record us cooking food.” Their first video featured a bacon cheeseburger chip dip, encouraging viewers to comment with dish requests, a move that fueled their subsequent taco tutorial.
Despite the stereotypes surrounding college cooking, Gunner and Kegan are elevating dorm meals to gourmet status. “Gunner is actually a chef at The Redwood [Steakhouse] in Anita,” Kegan shared, highlighting their culinary expertise. The pair has successfully crafted dishes like carne asada tacos, homemade pizza, and pork ribs—all from their dorm room kitchen.
The excitement doesn’t stop at cooking. During SWCC Days, the SWCC Chefs set up a table in the Student Center, serving pickle wraps and homemade chocolate chip cookies to fellow students. Their signature props—a quirky skeleton, a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch, and the neon open sign—have become fan favorites, drawing crowds eager to taste their creations.
As the videos hit social media, Kegan noted, “As soon as they see the video come out, they come knocking on the door.” This immediate engagement underscores the duo’s impact on campus culture, transforming the typical college experience into something extraordinary.
While their culinary talents shine, it’s interesting to note that none of the trio are pursuing careers in the food industry; Gunner and Ryan are studying electrical technology, while Kegan focuses on welding and technology. Their passion for cooking, however, continues to resonate with their peers, inspiring others to step out of the ordinary and explore gourmet cooking.
The SWCC Chefs plan to keep the momentum going, with more videos and interactive content on the horizon. This dynamic duo is not just cooking; they are shaping a community and redefining culinary expectations on campus.
Stay tuned for more updates as the SWCC Chefs continue to create delicious content and engage with their growing audience!
