URGENT UPDATE: A stolen fire truck has caused extensive damage in Washington state, leaving a trail of wrecked vehicles and chaos. Police are actively searching for the suspect who commandeered a fire engine from the Everett Fire Department late Friday night.
The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. on the 2900 block of Hoyt Avenue, approximately 30 miles north of Seattle. Firefighters were responding to a medical emergency in a nearby apartment building when the fire truck—a 2018 Pierce Enforcer Pumper—was stolen.
Witnesses reported that the suspect drove the stolen truck at high speeds through residential streets in north Everett, causing severe damage across multiple locations. The fire department confirmed that the vehicle struck at least ten parked cars, along with trees, directional signs, and landscaping.
The Everett Police Department quickly responded to the scene after receiving the first 911 call reporting a hit-and-run. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the fire truck left the scene after crashing into two parked vehicles before continuing its rampage.
In a statement, Everett Police Chief John DeRousse expressed concern over the reckless actions of the suspect: “Losing a fire engine to such a reckless person not only jeopardizes the safety of our first responders but also puts our community at risk. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents, and any information that helps us resolve this incident is crucial.”
Authorities reported no injuries from the incidents, but the cost of the damage is expected to be significant. Pictures shared by the fire department show the aftermath, highlighting destroyed cars and debris scattered across the streets.
The stolen fire truck, weighing around 35,000 pounds, has been impounded for evidence and sustained significant damage during the incident. This vehicle was one of the department’s newer engines, underscoring the serious implications of its theft.
Going forward, Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco emphasized the importance of community safety and the need for preventative measures. “We are thankful that no one was injured in this event,” he said. “We remain focused on safeguarding our community and our emergency response capabilities.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward. As the search for the suspect continues, this reckless act serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed to both first responders and the community at large.
