URGENT UPDATE: The Spring Place Ruritan Club is mobilizing volunteers for a critical cleanup effort in Spring Place this Saturday, August 2, at 9 a.m.. This community initiative focuses on restoring the historic Lucy Hill/Mission spring, and addressing litter throughout the township, ahead of the upcoming Vann House Day and the Spring Place Festival.

Volunteers are urged to gather at the spring, located on Lucy Hill School Street just off Ellijay Street. Teams will be organized to tackle various tasks, including cleaning the spring, sprucing up the grounds, and picking up litter along Ellijay and Elm Streets. Residents are encouraged to bring grabbers, tools, waders, and any equipment that will assist in the cleanup efforts.

This initiative is particularly significant as Spring Place is recognized as one of the most historic communities in Georgia. It was home to the first Christian mission for the Cherokees, served as a removal fort during the Trail of Tears, and was the first county seat for Murray County. Designated as a Georgia Historic Township and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the community is committed to preserving its rich heritage.

The cleanup is not just about enhancing the town’s appearance; it’s about fostering community spirit and pride. Tim Howard, a representative of the Spring Place Ruritan Club, encourages all community members to participate. He can be reached for more information at (706) 280-5535.

This is a unique opportunity for residents to engage with their local history and contribute to the beautification of their community. Don’t miss this chance to make a difference—join your neighbors and help restore Spring Place to its former glory!
