Southeastern Louisiana’s Hayes Scores TD on Kickoff for 2nd Game
BREAKING: Southeastern Louisiana’s Brandon Hayes electrified the field once again, returning the second-half kickoff for a touchdown in a decisive 38-14 victory over Houston Christian on Saturday. This marks his second consecutive game achieving this remarkable feat, following an 85-yard return after last week’s 83-yard return against Northwestern State.
The Lions have now extended their win streak to four games, improving their record to 6-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Southland Conference. The momentum shifted early in the third quarter when Houston Christian’s Jaden King intercepted a pass and returned it for a 50-yard pick-6, narrowing the gap to 21-14.
However, Southeastern Louisiana quickly regained control, scoring the final 17 points of the game. Quarterback Carson Camp connected with Cade Collier for a 16-yard touchdown pass, followed by Calvin Smith Jr.’s 2-yard rushing touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. Despite throwing two interceptions, Camp managed to throw for 169 yards, while Deantre Jackson contributed with a rushing touchdown.
On the defensive end, linebacker KK Reno led the Lions with 10 tackles, showcasing a strong defensive performance that limited Houston Christian to just 199 yards of total offense, including a mere 85 passing yards. The Huskies, now with a 2-6 record and 1-3 in conference play, struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game, with Darryle Evans leading their offense with 90 rushing yards.
As Southeastern Louisiana continues to climb the rankings, currently sitting at 19th in the FCS Coaches Poll, fans are eagerly watching to see if they can maintain this winning streak. The team’s next challenge will be crucial as they aim to solidify their position in the playoff race.
